DNA Paternity

Fertility
Fertility is the ability to conceive children. Infertility is often thought of as a female concern, but in fact in a third of cases it is because of male problems as well.
The risk factors for both male and female infertility are the same. These include:
• Age : fertility declines with age and the risk of miscarriage is greater for older women
• Medical conditions : genetic problems, gynaecological problems, low sperm count, diabetes
• Occupational and environmental risks
• Multiple sex partners : leads to sexually transmitted diseases (STD)
• Lifestyle : smoking, stress, overweight or underweight

A lot of couples are actually suffering from unsuccessful conception and they do not know where to find help in order to have their own baby. If you are diagnosed with infertility your doctor might suggest you the IVF treatment. In-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment involves the fertilisation of an egg (or eggs) outside the body. The treatment can be performed using your own eggs and sperm, or using either donated sperm or donated eggs, or both. However, by just doing IVF alone is not sufficient since the majority of the miscarriage are due to chromosomal aneuploidies. Therefore a pre-implantation genetic screening (PGS) is recommended prior to IVF treatment for an even higher success rate of conception.

EmbryoCheck:
EmbryoCheck is an NGS-based Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening (PGS) for chromosomal abnormalities of the embryos prior to transfer into mother’s womb.  The test is typically performed on either blastomeres or blastocysts or polar bodies. It offers information on the aneuploidy state of embryonic DNA by screening all 23 chromosomes.PGS has been suggested to improve the outcome of embryos implantation in In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and successful pregnancy.

Who should go for the test?
•  Women with advanced maternal age (≤35 years old)
•  IVF couple
•  Couple who have a family history of inherited genetic disorder
•  Women with recurrent miscarriage
